About us

Buzău County Museum is the main museum institution in Buzău County. Currently, it operates in the building of the former normal girls' high school built between 1931 and 1937 (included under the name of Buzau County Museum, on the List of historical monuments in Buzău county).

Its structure includes 3 departments (Archeology, History-Memorialistic, Plastic Art) and 4 external collections, one also located in Buzau and others located in the villages of Colți, Măgura, Pârscov.

Under the auspices of the institution, a series of books were published ("Mousaios Library"), 2 annual scientific bulletins ("Mousaios" and "Buzău Annals"), catalogs and monographs, the result of scientific research carried out within the museum institution.

Its foundations were laid by Basil Iorgulescu and the development of the collections led to several stages of expansion. The current headquarters is the third.
